Description
The Prescott Police Department, in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is urging parents and caregivers to ensure that their child passengers are secured in the correct seats for their age and size.
Correctly buckling your child in the right seat can be lifesaving. In 2022, over a third (39%) of child passengers who lost their lives in crashes were unrestrained. The importance of using car seats cannot be overstated—they reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants under 1 year old and by 54% for toddlers aged 1 to 4 years old in passenger vehicles.
NHTSA.gov offers a wealth of free resources to help parents navigate child passenger safety. Across the nation, certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians are available to assist caregivers in selecting the proper car seat, installing it correctly, and using it safely on every trip. Just as parents seek expert advice on many aspects of parenting, ensuring your child’s safety in a vehicle should be no different.
